Winterville Police Chaplain (Capt) Ray Fairman recently completed a guide for developing "Critical Incident Response Plans" (CIRP) for The Westminster Christian Academy located In Watkinsville, GA, at 1640 New High Shoals Road.
Chaplain Fairman is a 37 year veteran of law enforcement and has a 16 year background in the area of School Resource planning and operations. He is a National Association of School Resource Officers Certified National Practitioner. Our Chaplain was contacted by LtCol Seth Hathaway, USMC, the Commanding Officer of the Marine Detachment at NSCS Athens and the Parent of a student at the school. He was asked to provide some planning assistance to the school's staff as they seek to update their campus safety and security for the future. This request resulted from Captain Fairman's past experience and relationship to the local Marine Detachment.
Captain Fairman prepared an operational guide including guidelines for critical incidents that might require either lockdown or evacuation operations. Also covered were the purpose and rational for CIRP Planning and the various responsibilities of emergency management planning and operational personnel. Important definitions and planning committee membership guides were also included. The guide also included tips on communicating during a crisis. This area deals with inter-agency communication, communicating with parents and with the press. A quick emergency first aid chapter concluded the guide which also provided some specific incident guidelines.
The school will now look at the development of a committee to prepare a site specific plan for their own campus.
