The Winterville Police Department is a small agency inside Athens-Clarke County Georgia. The department is comprised of 14 sworn police officers. (4 Full time and 10 reserve officers.) The average officer has at least 15 years of Law Enforcement experience and 2000 hours of P.O.S.T. Advanced Training.
This agency's officers have a multitude of specialties to include: Bomb Disposal Technician, SWAT Operator, Identification Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, Haz-Mat Technician, Police Chaplain and Licensed Polygraph Examiner. The departments Reserve Officers range from retired F.B.I. and D.E.A. Agents, to active military and civilian Security Chiefs.
The Training Department has P.O.S.T Instructors certified to teach in all general and specialized areas to include: All Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Speed Detection, SFST, Less Lethal Weapons, Chemical Defense Weapons as well as Advanced Tactical Training, Bomb Disposal and all areas of Emergency Medical Services.
Our officers are some of the best trained, most experienced and dedicated officers in the nation. They serve daily with but one mission, to provide an exemplary level of service and protection to everyone at all times.
